$1000. For a female student who plans  on attending ColumbiaCollege.  Based on academic achievement, school activities, & financial need. Finalists will be interviewed. Application

$1000.  Based on athletics, need, citizenship. GPA of 3.0 or better.

ALLEN FAMILY SCHOLARSHIP

$400.  GPA 2.5 or better.  Based on financial need, with preference given to a student involved in school, community and/ or athletic activities.

AMERICAN LEGION POST 58

$500 Financial need.  Must have a parent, guardian, grandparent, uncle, aunt, great uncle, great aunt, brother, or sister who is either active military or an honorably discharged veteran.  At least 3.0 GPA, have financial need, active in the community, and  believe in God and the United States of America.  Must provide copy of veterans DD Form 214. Application

BASS FAMILY FUND / MOTHERLODE INTERAGENCY TRAINING OFFICERS

$400   Recipient must be a dependent or a member of the Mother Lode Inter-agency Training Officers Association.  Based on financial need and continuing education.  Teacher recommendations encouraged.

BECKI EAST MEMORIAL

2 @ $500.  To a student who’s major is child development or education/teaching.

BLACK OAK CASINO SCHOLARSHIP

Up to $5,000.  For a dependent of a Black Oak Casino employee pursuing a certificate, associate, bachelor, or graduate degree at an accredited institution of higher education including trade or vocational school.  Financial need will be considered.  A short essay is required and letters of recommendation may be included but not required.

BROCKMAN FAMILY SCHOLARSHIP

$1000. Student seeking a 4 year degree in education. Financial need.  Teacher recommendations encouraged.

BRUCE PAXTON MEMORIAL MUSIC SCHOLARSHIP

$1000. Student must plan on being a music major, show participation in high school or community music programs, have a financial need and acceptable GPA.  ** You may  use the standard application but please include in your personal statement what or how you intend to use music in your career goal for this scholarship. Applications must be submitted by 3/15/14

CABRILLO CIVIC CLUBS OF AMERICA

$500. Open to students of Portuguese descent who have maintained a GPA of 3.5 or better and participated in at least three extra-curricular activities in high school.  This also requires letters of recommendation (see web application & instructions for details at www.cabrillocivicclubs.org).  Postmarked by March 15th. Application

CALAVERAS/TUOLUMNE CATTLEWOMEN’S ASSOCIATION

$500. Awarded to a student who plans to pursue a career in agriculture. Application

CALIFORNIA SCHOOL EMPLOYEES ASSOCIATION

The CSEA Scholarship is available to CSEA Chapter 774 member’s dependents, ie: children, grandchildren, brother, sister.  It is also available to dependents from other CSEA chapters, who attend school within the Sonora Union High School District.  Students applying for this scholarship must include the member’s Chapter # and relationship to student at the end of their Personal Statement to be considered for this scholarship.

CAROL WIVELL MEMORIAL

TBD. Student  has overcome adversity and has the drive to complete a college degree.  Student must plan on attending a two or four year college or a vocational school.

CHARLES BALL MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP

$500.  Based on nursing or veterinary major & grades.

COACH FRANCIS ATHLETIC AWARD

GPA 3.0.  Involved in sports, including cheerleading at Sonora High School.  ** Requires an essay on either of the following: (1) Choose a coach from any of your athletic endeavors and describe how that coach influenced your life, or (2) Explain how athletics have motivated you in choosing and preparing for your future plans.

COLUMBIA COLLEGE FUTURE VISION SCHOLARSHIP

$1000 toward the 2013-2014 academic year at Columbia College. Must be in the top 25% of graduating class.  Must be involved in student leadership which can include, but is not limited to, active involvement in student government, student club, community service, teaching assistant, peer advising, or co-curricular activities such as music, drama, sports, academic associations and/or honor societies. Must be planning on enrolling full time (12 or more units).

$500.  GPA 2.0.  Financial need.  For a student planning on education in fire fighting, law enforcement, or the health field ( Dr. , nurse, EMT, or paramedic)

DOC CURTICE MEMORIAL

2 @ $350.  For college degree or trade school.  Consideration given for underprivileged students who have worked hard to succeed.

$500. For a student who plans on attending one full-time semester in the automotive program at Columbia College & who has shown an aptitude for auto mechanics.  Min. GPA 2.5.  Preference given to a student that has taken an auto shop class.

$2000 ($1,000 per year x 2 years)  For a student attending a vocational school or program.

$500 GPA 3.5 or better, financial need, and pursuing science, technology ,engineering or math.

GINA MARIE GARDELLA MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP

$1000.  Based on financial need. GPA 2.0 or better. Must have participated in such agricultural programs as 4H or FFA for a minimum of 3 years. Continuing on to vocational. Trade school, or 2 or 4-year college with an agriculture intention.

GOLDEN STATE CELLULAR

Graduating seniors from any school or education program in Alpine, Amador, Calaveras, Tuolumne or Mariposa Counties are eligible. Scholarship winners will receive a $500 cash award. A total of 20 scholarships will be awarded. Applications can be found under the Golden State Cellular website and must be e-mailed to: scholarships@goldenstatecellular.com by March 28th.  Application must include student’s full name, name of high school or program of study.  Essay no longer than 500 words answering, “How will technology change the field your are planning to enter in college?”

JOHN GHIORSO MEMORIAL NURSING SCHOLARSHIP

$500. GPA 2.5. Preference given to a male student pursuing a career in nursing.  Scholarship will be awarded after a student completes at least 12 college units in a community college or nursing program.

JOSHUA DITLER MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP

$250.  Students from all fields of studies and career aspirations encouraged to apply.  The fund will consider applicants who plan to earn a certificate, diploma from a community college, university or four year college, or trade, technical, or vocational school recognized by the U.S. Department of Education. Attach 2 letters of recommendation from counselor, teacher, employer, coach, minister etc. Application

2@ $750.  For a student planning on continuing at either a 2 or 4 year college or trade school.  Must be a Sonora Elementary graduate with GPA of 2.0 or better.  Participation in sports & community service, and an emphasis on math/science helpful but not mandatory. **Must attach a one page essay on the definition of success.

$500.  Awarded to a student enrolling at a 2 year or 4-year college to study engineering.  GPA will be a consideration. ** Attach a written statement ( 250 words) on education and career goals and one letter of recommendation from a teacher required. **

KIWANIS CLUB OF SONORA VOCATIONAL SCHOLARSHIP

$500. Open to students planning on pursuing study in a vocational field, one that may take an associate art degree, technical school, union training position, or a correspondence program.  The intent is to pursue a direction that in most cases will not lead to a 4 year degree. Some examples include: carpentry, culinary arts, insurance fields, nursing, cosmetology, auto mechanics, pilots, police work, building trades, law enforcement, child care, business applications, and fire science. Must have community involvement, desire & financial need.

KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS

$500. For a graduating senior who is active in the Catholic Church.

KOREAN WAR VETERANS/GERALD RYDER MEMORIAL

$500. MOTHER LODE FLY FISHING CLUB MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP

$500.  For students pursuing a career in the field of natural sciences, forestry, animal science, marine biology, fish & game, environmental science, range management, or hydrology, devoted to wildlife preservation and enhancement. ** Must attach a 150 – 250 word essay expressing why you have chosen a field of study within the natural and/ or earth sciences. Must also submit two letters of recommendation from within the local community.  Due by March 12th.

$500. ( 2 payments of $250 each)  Awarded to a student with financial need, and who has experienced and who has overcome extreme adversities.  Must enroll and complete 6 or more units of academic or vocational/trade school education.

SIERRA QUILT GUILD SCHOLARSHIP

$500.  Awarded to a student who demonstrates interest in textile or fiber arts, has participated in community service and/or co-curricular activities, and has a GPA of at least 2.5. Application

2@ $500.  Awarded to a graduate of Sonora Elementary School. Based on financial need and full time enrollment.

SONORA EMBLEM CLUB

$500. GPA 3.0 or better.  Based on  school activities, community involvement, college potential, leadership, extra curricular activities.  Must be a U.S. citizen, preference given to relarives of Emblem Club members.

SONORA HIGH  CLASS of 1958 SCHOLARSHIP

$1000.  Based on financial need, attending 2 or 4 year accredited college, GPA of 3.0 or above, and activity or community service demonstrating leadership.

SONORA HIGH AG BOOSTERS

$1000. Desire to attend a 2 or 4 year college program with agriculture goals.  Minimum of two years active participation in Sonora FFA.  GPA 2.0 with 3.0 in AG classes. Application

3 @ $750. GPA 2.5 or better.  Participation in school and community activities and 2 letters of recommendation from individuals who supervised those activities. Financial need will be considered.

SONORA HIGH SCHOOL FACULTY FOLLIES

TBD. Awarded to students with good GPA’s, college potential, service to school and good citizenship.

SONORA HIGH SCHOOL TRANSPORTATION DEPT

2.0+ GPA.  Financial need.  Planned enrollment in an accredited college or trade school with a minimum of 6 units. **  Applicant must have had some bus riding experience at SHS and answer an additional question on the application.  Attach a short essay about your bus riding experience at Sonora High. Turn in to Counseling Office.

SONORA HIGH WATER POLO COLLEGE FUND

$1,000. For a student on the Sonora High School water polo team. **  Applicants must include a formal letter to the committee telling how water polo has impacted them. They should also include plans for collegiate or club water polo.

SONORA LIONS CLUB VARVANDAKIS SCHOLARSHIP

$500.  Based on financial need, 3.0 GPA for at least 2 years & participation in various school activities.  Preference  given to a student enrolled in basketball at SHS and continuing at Columbia College or Modesto JC.

SONORA REGIONAL MEDICAL CENTER AUXILIARY

$500. Criteria: Commitment to a medically related field, evidence of 3.0 GPA minimum, financial need, evidence of community service, 3 letters of recommendation & a personal statement about yourself and your career goal. Deadline April 1st . Application
