With the support of the U.S. Department of State, Dr. Mike McCoy, a school superintendent in Sonora California participated in an exchange program with Director Juan Carlos Pohn of Escuela 437 Juan Crisostomo Lafinur from San Luis Province in Argentina. Señor Pohn visited California in the fall of 2012 observing schools, universities and private industry. Dr. McCoy traveled to San Luis in the summer of 2013 and visited schools, universities and cultural sites. He met with the Minister of Education for San Luis Province and visited more than 20 school sites. After the very positive exchange, Dr. McCoy and Señor Pohn wanted to continue the very positive relationship between their schools and to support mutual understanding between their students. Con el apoyo del Departamento de Estado de los EE.UU., el Dr. Mike McCoy, un superintendente escolar en Sonora California participamos en un programa de intercambio con el director Juan Carlos Pohn de la Escuela 437 Juan Crisóstomo Lafinur de San Luis Provincia de Argentina. Señor Pohn visitó California en el otoño de 2012 observando escuelas, universidades y la industria privada. Dr. McCoy viajó a San Luis en el verano de 2013 y visito las escuelas, universidades y lugares de interés cultural. Dr. McCoy se reunió con el Ministro de Educación de la Provincia de San Luis y visitó más de 20 escuelas. Después de un intercambio muy positivo, el Dr. McCoy y el señor Pohn querían continuar la relación entre sus escuelas y apoyar la comprensión mutua entre sus estudiantes.

Project Jarding (Garden Exchange)

The Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs and their grant program is supporting a “Garden Exchange” project between Sonora High School and Escuela 437 Lafinur. The two schools have gardens that provide a place to teach students about growing vegetables, local agriculture, and healthy nutrition. Students will post weather and climate data on a shared bi-lingual website. They will share information on soil quality, vegetable production, and recipes for the kitchen. La oficina de Asuntos Educativos y Culturales y de su programa de donaciones está apoyando un proyecto “Jardín Exchange” entre Sonora High School y Escuela 437 Lafinur. Las dos escuelas tienen jardines que proporcionan un lugar para enseñar a los estudiantes sobre el cultivo de hortalizas, la agricultura local y la nutrición saludable. Los estudiantes publicaran datos meteorológicos y climáticos en esta pagina web compartida. Ellos compartirán la información sobre la calidad del suelo, la producción de hortalizas, y las recetas para la cocina.

Spanish teacher Frank Garcia of Sonora will coordinate the project in California. Señor Garcia is a popular language teacher who is passionate about organic sustainable gardening. Other Sonora advisors will be school board member Katryn Weston of Blue Oak Farm, agriculture teacher Kristi Hill and Superintendent Mike McCoy. Profesor español Frank García, de Sonora coordinará el proyecto en California. El señor García es un profesor de lengua popular, que es un apasionado de la jardinería orgánica sostenible. Otros asesores por parte de Sonora será el miembro del consejo escolar Katryn Weston de Blue Oak Farm, la profesora de Agrultura Kristi Hill y el Superintendente Mike McCoy.
