Cosmetology

To visit the Sonora High Cosmetology School website please click here. Classroom and practical experience concerned with a variety of beauty treatments governed by the State Board of Cosmetology that will prepare a student to pass the state examination, issuing a State License to practice cosmetology in the State of California.

The course length is 1600 clock hours, in an 18 month program. Students should be seriously interested in the field of cosmetology, have artistic flair, and possess good social skills.
Prerequisites: High School students must have counselor and cosmetology instructor’s approval. Adult students High School Graduate, GED or 10th grade education.

Helpful courses:
Business Math, English, Art, or any related classes to enhance personal growth and career growth. Open to juniors and seniors and adults. Must be 16 years of age or older. Additional costs incurred with this class.

Ms. “D” (Lisa D. Pearce) comes from a business management background. After becoming a single parent, she decided she needed a new career path that would give her more flexibility to raise her young daughter. So she enrolled in the Sonora High School Cosmetology Program, not really knowing if it was the right “fit” for her. “I did not think I was artistically inclined, but found I really enjoyed what I was doing”, Pearce said. Nearly twenty years later, and now a credentialed Cosmetology Instructor for the past 8 years. Pearce says, “After years behind the chair, I still love my job and my profession, how many people can say that!” Pearce added, “I love to share the things I have learned over the years with the students. Teaching has given me renewed passion and an outlet to give back to the profession that has done so much for me.”

Slater, Kelli

Kelli Slater is a graduate of Sonora High Cosmetology Program. She has worked as a stylist/manicurist for over 20 years at a local salon. Kelli continues to bring “real life” experience to her students since she is still currently working behind the chair on a weekly basis. Her career is her passion, with an emphasis on hair color, cutting and waxing. She has attended many advanced level continuing education workshops and is passionate about the effect it has on beginning stylist as well as the seasoned stylist.

Kelli is married with two your children and a lifelong Tuolumne County resident. She enjoys traveling camping, atv’s and bike riding with her spare time. One of her favorite motto’s is “Nobody is ever born a great anything. People learn and develop skills.” She believes wholeheartedly in the Sonora High Cosmetology Program because of all the opportunities it has provided for her.

Mason, Christine

Christine Mason graduated from Sonora High ROP Cosmetology in 1994, and has been highly involved in the Cosmetology industry for the past twenty years. She has donated her time throughout the years to causes such as Relay for Life, Cancer Awareness Cut-a-Thons, judging various Cosmetology competitions and mentoring newly licensed Cosmetologists in the area.

Having owned and operated her own hair salon in Downtown Sonora for several years, Ms. Mason hopes to provide students with a balance of trade skills and business knowledge. Christine still works as a hair color specialist and stylist outside of her instruction hours, and enjoys combining a solid foundation in basic skills with current industry knowledge and techniques. In her spare time, she volunteers to mentor rodeo queen contestants for numerous rodeo titles, and enjoys traveling and competing in barrel racing with her daughter, Ariel. She is a member of American Computer Barrel Racing Association and California Gymkhana Association, for which she has been a licensed judge for nine years.
