The Sonora High CTE Automotive programs goal is to teach the students basic automotive fundamentals that may be used to obtain a certificate, to enroll in post-secondary education classes, or to obtain employment.

The students are instructed in, but not limited to; shop safety protocol, basic electrical theory, engine design, four stroke theory, suspension and steering design, hydraulic brake operation, cooling and lubrication systems, tires, wheel balancing and general automotive maintenance.  The curriculum includes theory, design, operation, diagnosis, and repair.

The automotive advisory committee is comprised of local automotive business owners and managers.  Their recommendations have included the need for extensive instruction on brake system, basic electrical systems and repair in the specified areas.  These are the skills that have been singled out as necessary for students to obtain in a limited amount of time, and become proficient in, to gain a good entry level job position.
